As companies and their networks grow, bandwidth needs start to grow exponentially. All modern connected industries invest significant amounts of time and money to ensure that enough bandwidth is available for business-critical activities and applications. When bandwidth needs exceed available capacity or when demand seems to expand beyond the abilities of network, it becomes critical to understand bandwidth usage and decide what to do. If an organisation needs to know how and by whom bandwidth is being used, SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is the right solution. With SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer, network admins can quickly trace and monitor the bandwidth usage of a particular application or type of traffic. By understanding who, what, and how bandwidth is being used, network admins can avoid bottlenecks, deliver better quality of service and reduce costs all while continually delivering business critical applications and services.
KEY FEATURES OF SOLARWINDS NETFLOW TRAFFIC ANALYZER
DESIGNED FOR ADMINISTRATORS
NetFlow Traffic Analyzer delivers a good user experience from the start. Default views include a series of dashboards that identify a range of possible problem areas – top talkers, top endpoints, and top applications. These analysis dashboards deliver a comprehensive, customisable view of organisation’s network traffic on a single pane of glass, allowing to spot potential problems quickly. Intuitive point-and-click interface makes it easy to instantly get to the root of bandwidth issues.
FORENSICS AND DRILL DOWNS
A strong reason for having a SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is the ability to troubleshoot network problems when there are no obvious errors or outages. NetFlow Traffic Analyzer allows network administrators to drill-down to see not just volume, but also what kind of traffic is flowing through the network. This tool provides valuable insights into which applications are consuming the most network bandwidth and tracks application traffic arriving from designated ports, source IPs, destination IPs, and even protocols. Moreover, it delivers an instant alert notification, including a list of “top talkers” when an interface exceeds its bandwidth utilisation threshold. So when network performance problems crop up, network admins can instantly tell whether the cause is a single bandwidth hog or some other activity.
SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer adds another level of visibility into the network by helping to identify application traffic out of the general flow data. It can map common applications like Oracle, and many web applications like Facebook or online gaming sites.
So instead of a list of IP addresses and ports, admins see a readable and useful picture of exactly what kind of traffic is generated. This could be used to identify and shutdown bandwidth vampires, or perhaps to determine how much bandwidth to allocate to QOS queues, enabling better traffic management and possibly avoiding costly bandwidth upgrades.
SolarWinds has enabled NTA to raise alerts when interfaces become saturated above a defined threshold. Alerts can be delivered via SMS Text, email, and other common notification methods.
The alerts can contain a couple of helpful items to pinpoint problems. The first is a list of top talkers – so users can instantly see who is generating the bulk of the traffic. The second is a direct link to details of the specific flow that triggered the alert which helps save time by providing a quick way to jump to the NTA interface for further investigation.
